Christmas Spirit

It’s morning on the day before Christmas. And, settling down on the sofa with my first cup of coffee, I began pushing buttons on the remote, seeking tonight’s Chargers vs Raider football game. Some Christmas spirit, eh? Well… OK I’ll admit it’s been a bit of a humbug season this year for me.

I believe that God, or the Universe – whatever you wish to call it – sends us a gift every day. Our task is to be conscious enough to recognize a piece of music, a flower in full bloom, birds in flight or some other subtle thing of beauty that eludes conscious perception, buried under the stress of the moment.

This morning’s gift was not subtle at all — more like a two-by-four right between the eyes. When the TV screen came alive, Ebenezer Scrooge was having his last visitation with the Ghost of Christmas Future. I happened to tune in just as he transformed from miser to joyous benefactor. The scene was contagious. As Ebenezer doled out gifts and lifted the spirits of all he encountered, mine lifted as well.

So, it is with that special and now expanded Christmas Spirit that I say…

HO! HO! HO! Merry Christmas to all!

And to all a good night!

Go Raiders!

Buddies! Celebrating our anniversary.
